Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences create a unique environment for multidisciplinary, inspirational and high-impact research and education. Our universities community has its competitive edges in technology, health and society. www.tuni.fi/en

Tampere University’s Laboratory for Future Electronics investigates technologies and solutions related to energy autonomous sensors, supercapacitors, energy harvesting, low-power wireless sensors, conformable and deformable electronics, and hybrid system integration. Strong emphasis is placed on scalable, low-cost manufacturing methods such as printing as well as the integration of printed components and circuits with more conventional component assembly methods. We have state of the art printing facility for carrying out the research (see more details: https://research.tuni.fi/lfe/).

Applications are invited for a 3 years full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow position related to development of 3D printed biodegradable supercapacitor for digital agriculture sensors.

The open position is related to “Transient Electronics for Sustainable ICT in DigitaL Agriculture” project that investigates and develops technologies for sustainable manufacturing paradigm for electronics. The project is funded as a part of CHIST-ERA programme.

Job description:

To strengthen our team, we are looking for a talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow with strong background in materials, printed electronics, and supercapacitors including device fabrication and characterization to develop 3D printed biodegradable supercapacitors.

In particular activities are linked in building a low-cost environmentally sustainable energy storage unit with high energy and power densities for powering wireless sensors in agriculture environment. The objective is to determine the influence of the different materials combinations and structures together with printing and post-processing conditions on the electrical and mechanical properties of supercapacitors. The position involves hands-on work in preparing relevant components using printed electronics fabrication methods available at Tampere University. The work will be carried out in close collaboration between international research partners.

You may also be involved in participating in acquiring research grants, project management, supervision of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, and some teaching duties in the future.

Requirements

You are an enthusiastic, highly motivated researcher holding a PhD in the area of Electronics, Chemistry, or Materials and with experience in the field of printed electronics. We require strong hands-on experience on supercapacitors in particular with printed electronics processes. Previous expertise on biodegradable materials and 3D printing technologies are considered as a plus. All applicants should have an excellent command of written and oral English and good communication skills.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow should have doctor degree and proven publication record. Candidates should also have teaching/advising skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position, or have interest towards developing their supervisory and pedagogical skills.

Tampere University is a unique, multidisciplinary and boldly forward-looking, evolving community. Our values are openness, diversity, responsibility, courage, critical thinking, erudition/ Bildung, and learner-centredness. We hope that you can embrace these values and promote them in your work.

We offer

The positions are filled for a fixed-term period of 3 years. The positions can be filled from April 1st 2022 or based on agreement. A trial period of six (6) months applies.

The salary will be based on both the position requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Salary system of Finnish universities. The position of a Postdoctoral Research Fellow is placed on the job demand level 5 (teaching and research staff). A typical starting salary for Postdoctoral Research Fellow is approximately 3500-3600 €/month.

We offer a wide range of staff benefits, such as occupational health care, flexible working hours, excellent sports facilities on campus and several restaurants and cafés on campus with staff discounts. Please read more about working at Tampere University.
