Wärtsilä Marine, Project Services are looking for a Senior Design Engineer / Design Engineer with a main responsibility in mechanical systems & component design for 4-stroke medium speed engine upgrades. The preferred location for this position is Vaasa, Finland. We offer a possibility to hybrid remote work. 
  
Your role and responsibilities  
 
As a (Sr) Design Engineer, your work will include 4-stroke engine upgrade design for both customer projects and for development projects and you will become a part in our journey of decarbonisation. The tasks can also be adjusted based on your individual skills and interests. You’ll be working as a part of the energetic Engineering team within Project Engineering with diverse 4-stroke engine expertise. 

If you have a BSc or MSc in mechanical engineering, have an interest in project-based design and development work, and are eager to gain new knowledge about power generation technologies, feel free to apply. In our team, you will also be a part of an important development towards more environmentally friendly power generation solutions.

Responsibilities:
 

  • Prepare design for engine components/systems and produce drawings and technical specifications 
  • Cooperate with and give technical support to internal and external stakeholders 
  • Ensure quality, reliability and cost-efficient functionality of designs and solutions
  • Follow principles of maintenance friendliness and manufacturability in design concepts
  • Check drawings and documents (Sr DE)
  • Knowledge of and complying to both global and internal standards and design guidelines
  • Product lifecycle support design assignments 

 
Requirements for the position: 

  • Result oriented, able to work independently as well as a part of team
  • Practical mindset
  • Good command in English and Finnish or Swedish 
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Good skills in MS Office
  • Experience of 3D CAD, Siemens NX and Teamcenter is seen as an advantage 
  • Experience of machinery design (4-stroke engines) is seen as an advantage
  • Practical experience in relevant field is seen as an advantage
  • Readiness to occasional travelling to customer, supplier or production sites

 
Qualifications/to be able to succeed in the position we expect you to have: 
 

  • MSc or BSc in Mechanical Engineering or similar field of study
  • 2-5 years of experience in relevant field (Senior DE)
