We are looking for a Functional Safety Expert to Project Engineering in Wärtsilä Energy Business. The Functional Safety Expert will manage the process discipline in Power Plant development, customer delivery projects, starting from supporting the sales, activities until warranty end. This position will be reporting to Manager, Product Safety.

Location: Preferred location for this permanent position is Vaasa, Finland or other Wärtsilä offices in Europe.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the implementation of LOPA study results regarding SIF (Safety Instrumented functions): 
  • SRS (Safety Requirement Specification), 
  • SIL verification
  • FSA (functional safety assessment)
  • Manage FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) / FMECA (Failure Mode, Effects, Criticality Analysis), FTA (Failure Tree Analysis)
  • Provide leadership, counsel, and technical assistance to Technology and Product Management in the field of Process & Functional Safety Management to attain the safety targets
  • Guide project organization how to comply to functional safety requirements from Wärtsilä and functional safety standards
  • Support the Process Risk Assessments (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, Bow-Ties) during development as well as sales and project lifecycle
  • Co-ordinate the functional safety design between sub-suppliers and follow-up of the delivery 
  • Coordinate studies (such as cyber security or Reliable Available Maintenance (RAM))
  • Develop the way of working for functional safety in company & Develop SIF standard solutions with Technology and Product Management
  • Organise training regarding IEC 61508 and IEC 61511
  • Ensure that safety in design is executed according to contract specifications and design directives as a member of a project team
  • Participate in negotiations with customer and authorities regarding functional safety
  • Make purchase specifications for safety studies and act as a supervisor for functional safety to engineering partners and consultants 
  • Co-operate functional safety with the HSE team 
  • Support our site team during installation and commission phases 
  • Give feedback regarding technical solutions and complaints 
  • Write and maintain effective safety philosophies and safety procedures

Requirements

  • B.Sc. or higher in Engineering
  • Experience of functional safety and standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 61511 and IEC 15504
  • Minimum 3 years of experience 
  • Being self-going and motivation to learn and grow professionally
  • Good communication, negotiations and team working skills
  • Willingness to travel as well as ability to understand and work with diverse cultures
  • Minimum 3 years of experience of automation engineering
  • Good written and oral skills in English
  • Other earlier safety experience such as HSE, Process safety is seen as a benefit
