We are seeking a laboratory technician to join our new research team at the Department of Life Technologies, University of Turku, in a research project funded by the Academy of Finland. We study the mechanisms of gene expression in fungal microbes by employing the newest genetic tools as well biochemical and biophysical approaches at the cellular and molecular levels. Our research focuses on the biogenesis of RNA, and especially on fungal-specific pathways that regulate this process. Our aim is to identify molecular vulnerabilities in essential cellular processes in fungi in order to develop new compounds with anti-fungal properties.
Job description
Laboratory technician will be responsible for assisting in and carrying out diverse research activities, including cell culture, microbiological work, preparation of RNA and protein samples, analyses such as western blotting, RT-qPCR and northern blotting, working with radioisotopes, preparation of recombinant DNA, and protein expression and purification. Learning new techniques quickly is an integral part of this job.
Our expectations
You are a trained laboratory technician (or equivalent) with a significant previous hands-on experience from techniques mentioned above, you are capable of working independently, you have the drive to learn new technical skills, and you have a good oral and written skills in English.
Duration of employement: 1.1.2023 – 31.12.2023
There is a trial period of 6 months and the salary is determined in accordance with the salary system for universities. The person belongs to the other personnel (according to our Finnish collective agreement), and to job demand categories 6-7. The average salary will be 2450 - 2600 eur/month, depending on qualifications, experience and individual characteristics.
