Animal care technician / research assistant for fish rearing and breeding

The position is located in the Department of Biology, University of Turku, Finland. The Animal care technician / research assistant will work on an Academy of Finland-funded project “Physiological basis of fish adaptation to freshwater hypoxia: from plasticity to evolution” led by Dr Amélie Crespel. Position will last two years.

As an animal care technician / research assistant in the project, the applicant is expected to be responsible for the maintenance of the fish populations in the facilities, to take care of the environmental and housing conditions, to manage the breeding of the fish as well as the rearing of the larvae, and to assist with the ongoing physiological experiments when possible.

The applicants are expected to have completed a relevant degree and to have one or two years of experience in fish breeding and rearing. Previous work more specifically on sticklebacks would be appreciated. Interest in fish physiology and laboratory analysis would be considered a benefit. The applicants are expected to have excellent spoken English language skills.

The eligibility criteria are defined in the rules of procedure of the University of Turku.

There will be a trial period of 6 months.

The salary will be determined in accordance with the Finnish university salary system for other personnel. The salary for animal care technician / research assistant is at levels MV4 on the job chart, where the work-specific salary component is 1946,97 euros per month. In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid. The component based on personal performance adds a minimum of 6 % and a maximum of 50 % to the base salary.
