Job description
We are inviting applications for the position of researcher. The position is associated with a project titled Sustainable journalism (Kestävä journalismi), where the aim is to develop, prepare and implement a new study module in English focused on Sustainable journalism.
As a researcher, you will examine the existing research literature on sustainable journalism and prepare new materials for studies as well as for practical training.
While the job is located in Finland, the project requires also some international collaboration with the key partners around the world. The work will be conducted as a member of the team of journalism teachers at Tampere University and it will be supported by a steering committee of the project. The study module will be designed and implemented together with the Finnish Foundation for Media and Development (VIKES).
We are looking for candidates who are already familiar with both sustainable development and journalism, and who are interested in conducting research and developing the concept of sustainable journalism. In this position, the candidate is expected to be able to work relatively independently but also in close collaboration with other members of the journalism team.
Requirements
The candidate is required to hold an MA degree in journalism or in some other field of media and communication research. A successful candidate must have experience or proven track record of independent academic research work. Experience in project work and fluent oral and written English skills are also required. Expert knowledge in sustainable development, practical experience in course development and teaching or journalism as well as Finnish skills are considered an advantage.

We offer
The part-time position (30%-50%) will be filled for a fixed-term period of 3 years, but a shorter period can be negotiated according to applicant’s career plans. The starting date is also negotiable but should not be later than March 2023. A trial period of 6 months is applied to all new employees.
The salary will be based on both the position requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Salary system of Finnish universities. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, researcher is placed on level 2—4 of the job requirements scale. The salary can vary based on experience. In addition to the basic salary, a supplementary salary will be paid according to personal performance, depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. A typical starting salary for a researcher is 2500 € per month. A trial period of 6 months applies to all our new employees.

Informaatioteknologian ja viestinnän tiedekunnan journalistiikan opintosuunta etsii tutkijaa osa-aikaiseen määräaikaiseen tehtävään.
Tehtävänkuvaus
Tehtävä liittyy perustettavaan hankkeeseen nimeltä ”Sustainable journalism (Kestävä journalismi)”, joka keskittyy suunnittelemaan, valmistelemaan ja toteuttamaan samannimisen englanninkielisen journalistiikan opintokokonaisuuden.
Tutkijana perehdyt kestävää journalismia koskevaan tutkimuskirjallisuuteen ja valmistelet sen pohjalta kestävän journalismin englanninkielisten kurssien opetusaineistoja ja harjoituksia. Työskentelet yhdessä hankeryhmään kuuluvien journalistiikan opettajien kanssa ja hankkeen ohjausryhmän tukemana. Opintokokonaisuus suunnitellaan ja toteutetaan yhteistyössä Viestintä- ja kehityssäätiön (VIKES) kanssa.
Osa-aikainen tehtävä (30%-50%) täytetään enintään 3 vuoden määräajaksi, lyhyempi määräaikaisuus on neuvoteltavissa hakijan urasuunnitelmien mukaan.
