Development Engineer, Ancillary Systems

Wärtsilä Marine Power, R&D and Engineering is looking for a Development Engineer to Ancillary Systems team, for working with mechanical design.

This permanent position is in Vaasa, Finland.

Responsibilities:

As an R&D ancillary system engineer withing component expertise team, you will have responsibility to develop solutions for Wärtsilä engines lube oil, low pressure liquid fuel, compressed air, and cooling water systems.

Your tasks and area, as a mechanical designer, would be to:

• Work on development of new engine products
• Design ancillary test parts for engines
• Design auxiliaries off engine for testing new solutions especially related to future fuels (example methanol, ammonia, hydrogen)
• Design systems that that are heavily interacting with engine to increase engine room total efficiency
• Create and release specifications, drawings for ancillary components and systems

You will also have the responsibility to guide and co-operate with business units, within same area, to ensure the engine and its external auxiliary system work effectively together as one package (as example engine and auxiliary interface design).

Within your area, you will be in contact with external suppliers.

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you should have:

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in technical area
• Experience, know-how of 3-D mechanical design and creation of drawings
• Good written and spoken English (Finnish and/or Swedish seen as a benefit)
• Good team working abilities
• Structured way of working

Technical skills seen as benefit and useful in this position

• Siemens NX experience
• Understanding of liquid pumping systems and components, heat transfer and thermodynamics
• Previous work on combustion engines, marine or land-based power plant knowledge
