Look no further, we are looking forward to welcoming you on board! After reading the job ad,if you have any questions, reach out to Karthik Duggirala (karthik.duggirala[at]elisapolystar.com).

Here’s the background

  • We operate in Telecom industry rich with variety of software called Operation Support Systems (OSS)
  • Our solution makes a difference to Network Operation Centers (NOCs):
    • Typically, NOCs employ engineers to watch the screens, and when X and Y go wrong, then Z happens, and with Z the screen is blinking in red
    • We automate the first line of fault management (we run algorithms ala “if X and Y happen, then the software interferes with fixing proactively Z from happening”)
    • By doing this, we help both:
      • the engineers of our client companies with a chance to focus on more meaningful tasks
      • the end-customers (users of mobile phones) with better quality network
  • We call our solution Virtual NOC, or as the jargon goes, VNOC. VNOC is based on hundreds of different algorithms developed into the cloud-native solution that takes care of the first line of mobile NOCs. We have already deployed this solution to customers, here’s one public reference: https://elisapolystar.com/t-mobile/
  • And we’ve only got started – there’s a lot of demand for our pioneering work. Thus, we invite you to join us, to make sure the deployments are of the highest quality.

The technical setup of testing VNOC is roughly based on

  • Kafka, Kubernetes, ElasticSearch, REST based Microservices, SQL
  • Robot Framework, Python, Argo Workflows,
  • Git, JIRA

The development for VNOC is done mostly in Finland. Our teams are in Helsinki and Tampere, with a few members of teams in Jyväskylä. We’re flexible, you’re most welcome to join in remotely with occasional visits to the team meetups and such value-add days in person. Or work more frequently at the office. Yet we do expect you to be in Finland– as in practice this is needed to get approval from the security vetting process, which is required for this role.

About your role

First of all, we look forward to finding a great colleague - test automation engineer’s work is always done with other people.

Then an observation, Telecom companies have almost always unique solutions (today’s legacy was 90s and 00s pioneering work) and our VNOC solution needs to fit with every Telecom company OSS setup. This translates into a complex solution, which can be at times demanding to test and at the same time when realizing how to solve a particular challenge, very rewarding. Having the experience from the role, you know how that feels!

Therefore, the Test Automation Engineer’s role is wide as there are a lot of responsibilities to cover in Quality Assurance (hope you have experience from most of them). The gist of the role being:

  • Continuous development & maintenance of our test suits
  • Creating new tests that provide information on the quality of the VNOC prior to deployment
  • Analysis of test results and reporting found bugs, communication of test status and results
  • Design and execution of manual tests when automated is not appropriate
  • In a nutshell, the role’s core focus is on implementing test automation and increasing test coverage for our complex product in containerized environments

What do we offer?

  • International environment: although the development is done in Finland, our teams are highly international, our products are deployed world-wide, and our working language is English
  • Trustful ethos: the employer believes in empowering professionals, us, and we can provide you as much freedom and responsibility as you feel comfortable with, and support as needed
  • Learning community: you have the chance to develop your skills in a scrum, flexible and high-aspiring work atmosphere with friendly and skilled colleagues
  • Coaching leadership: with caring leaders, you get a planned introduction and induction, support as you progress and great growth opportunities in the near future
  • Competitive comp (& ben): the salary depends on your skills you bring in and we provide a competitive number based on your skills-add and your years of experience. The key benefits include mobile phone, lunch and culture benefits with occupational health.
  • Flexible setup: you’re most welcome to join in remotely with occasional visits to the team meetups and such value-add days in person.

And finally a few words on the company

  • Elisa Polystar is a subsidiary of the listed company, Elisa Plc.
  • The business of Elisa Polystar is Software, Automation and Data Management in the Telecom industry and we grow strong:
    • In 2022 we acquired two companies (one in Slovakia, another one in UK/Poland)
  • In total Elisa Polystar has now 400+ people working in 25 countries
  • The origins of VNOC is in Elisa managing to automate the NOC and network of the company
    • then starting our journey as an internal startup to provide help to other Telecom companies to do what Elisa has done,
    • and provide the help of what our superb portfolio of solutions can do for our clientele, see more at https://elisapolystar.com/solutions/

…Right, that was plenty of words. Yet we believe in sharing the background next to the role itself to allow yourself to know where you’re joining in. What we do is not taught in textbooks, with us you get to join in the pioneering work of Telecom automation.
