Wärtsilä’s Energy Business is looking for Engineering Manager – Project Execution for the Energy Storage & Optimization business. The role will be part of the hardware engineering team.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing environment while the industry and company go through substantial growth.

Preferred location(s) for this position is Wärtsilä’s location in Herndon, VA or Finland Vaasa,

Responsibilities:

• Provide overall leadership and administrative management for personnel which includes defining roles and responsibilities, conducting performance appraisals, participating in salary planning, promoting professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching, and counseling, among other leadership responsibilities
• Manage global resources to support new projects
• Develop and manage resources including full time employees and contractors to staff projects with appropriate skillsets
• Review projects deliverables and provide feedback to the engineers
• Manage projects deployment, technical requirement and documentation from sales handover to full installation
• Provide leadership with high integrity and oversight of processes protecting intellectual property, export controlled and strategic technology
• Build the technical abilities of the team, including support developing a pipeline of controlled title holders. Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and technical direction to assigned personnel
• Define technical gaps and develop training program to address the need
• Support individuals in their career development plan
• Ensure operational plan is met by establishing and monitoring hours used, and plans Assure technical excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources and consistency of methods across projects
• Taking ownership of all issues coming from sites and bring them to resolution
• Collaborate in a team environment and/or take charge of opportunities to develop optimal solutions.

Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
• 3+ experience leading engineering projects and teams
• Knowledge of industry standards, that to include UL9540, NFPA 70 and NFPA 855
• Highly experienced in Auto CAD Electrical
• 3+ experience in Battery Energy storage
• Ability to provide guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge / skill areas needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem
• Experience project engineering environment, with demonstrated experience in an organizational leadership role
• Familiar with product development and production process
• Strong understanding of good documentation practices
• Maintain positive working relationships with peers, subordinates, vendors, shop and office in a fast-paced environment
• A dedication and commitment to results in a dynamic and fast developing environment
• Ability to work with global team from different backgrounds and on different time zones
• Flexible and willing to adapt and learn
• Excellent written and verbal English and interpersonal skills
• Team player attitude internally and externally
• Demonstrated results while working in a matrix organization
• Willing to travel 20% of the time
