The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Tampere University combines activities in several engineering disciplines and natural sciences. The Faculty offers high-quality education leading towards bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees within several programmes at each level. In addition to the high-level basic research in its areas, the Faculty is known for its strong collaboration with industry. 

The present tenure track opening is within the Automation Technology and Mechanical Engineering Unit and the activities are divided between Tampere and Seinäjoki. In Tampere, the working location will be on the Hervanta Campus and in Seinäjoki in the University Centre Frami, located next to the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SeAMK). We have close collaboration with SeAMK in research and education. SeAMK has extremely good research laboratories for the present tenure-track position, including state of the art machining centers and cyber-physical systems from Festo. 

Job description 

We are seeking highly motivated and accomplished applicants in the area of digital manufacturing. The position will be filled on the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor, based on the experience and expertise of the selected candidate. 

We are interested in candidates who can complement our present expertise and activities in this research area. Your expertise should be based on solid research that is related to modernization of manufacturing operations and systems via emerging technologies and methods. The position can be tailored according to your specific expertise. Your research interests can focus on several different aspects of manufacturing, such as: 

• Model-based design and manufacturing 
• Advanced engineering design methods and manufacturing processes  
• Manufacturing process parameter optimization  
• Development of open mechatronics and manufacturing systems 
• Twin-transition, sustainable manufacturing, and zero-waste manufacturing  
• Cyber-physical systems and digital twins 
• Modelling and simulation of manufacturing operations and production systems 

You are expected to pursue and supervise scientific research in the field, as well as develop and conduct university-level education in manufacturing and production engineering. You are also expected to form and lead a research group with the goal of developing a financially sustainable research activity using national and international funds. Active collaboration with local, national and European research partners and companies is encouraged. Interacting with society is a central responsibility of this tenure-track position, especially a commitment to collaborate in the Seinäjoki region is expected.

Requirements 

You should have a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering with focus on industrial, manufacturing or production engineering and automation, or a related field. You should also have experience in scientific or technological research in academia or industry. Further requirements for each tenure-track level are as follows:   

Assistant Professor   
We require:   

• ability to undertake independent scholarly activity and potential to pursue scholarly activity at a high international level of excellence   
• teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position   

 
Associate Professor 
We require: 

• track record of independent scholarly activity on a high international level    
• teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position 
• ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding 

 
Professor 
We require: 

• high-level scholarly expertise 
• experience of leading scientific research 
• ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction 
• track record of winning external research funding

Your initial appointment as Assistant Professor / Associate Professor is fixed term for five years. Subject to successful performance, you will become tenured after the first five-year period. Full Professors are appointed on a permanent basis. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.  

Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. A typical starting salary for an Assistant Professor is approximately 4400-4700 EUR/month and for an Associate Professor approximately 5100-5500 EUR/month and for a Professor approximately 6200-6600 EUR/month. Higher salaries may be negotiated for candidates with exceptional experience and/or performance.

Tehtävänkuvaus 

Etsimme motivoituneita ja päteviä hakijoita digitaalisen valmistuksen alalta. Paikka täytetään tenure track -mallin mukaisen tenure track -tutkijan, tenure track -professorin tai professorin tasolla valitun ehdokkaan kokemuksen ja asiantuntemuksen perusteella. 

Olemme kiinnostuneita ehdokkaista, jotka voivat täydentää nykyistä osaamistamme ja toimintaamme tällä tutkimusalueella. Osaamisesi tulee perustua vankkaan tutkimukseen, joka liittyy tuotantotoimintojen ja järjestelmien modernisointiin uusilla teknologioilla ja menetelmillä. Tehtävä voidaan räätälöidä oman osaamisesi mukaan. Tutkimusintressisi voivat keskittyä useisiin eri tuotannon näkökohtiin, kuten: 

• Mallipohjainen suunnittelu ja valmistus 
• Kehittyneet tekniset suunnittelumenetelmät ja valmistusprosessit 
• Valmistusprosessin parametrien optimointi  
• Mekatroniikan ja valmistusjärjestelmien kehittäminen 
• Kaksoissiirtymä, kestävä valmistus  
• Kyberfyysiset järjestelmät ja digitaaliset kaksoset 
• Valmistustoimintojen ja tuotantojärjestelmien mallintaminen ja simulointi 

Sinulta odotetaan alan tieteellistä tutkimusta ja sen ohjaamista sekä yliopistotason valmistus- ja tuotantotekniikan koulutuksen kehittämistä  ja toteuttamista. Lisäksi sinulta odotetaan kykyä muodostaa tutkimusryhmä ja johtaa sitä sekä kykyä kehittää taloudellisesti kestävää tutkimustoimintaa kansallisella ja kansainvälisellä rahoituksella. Sinua kannustetaan tekemään aktiivista yhteistyötä paikallisten, kansallisten ja eurooppalaisten tutkimuskumppaneiden ja yritysten kanssa. Tehtävä edellyttää tohtorin tutkintoa, joka liittyy konetekniikkaan, valmistustekniikkaan, tuotantotekniikkaan tai automaatiotekniikkaan sekä kokemusta alan tutkimuksesta joko akateemisessa tai teollisuusympäristössä. Lisäksi edellytykset eri tenure track -tasoille on kuvattu alla seuraavasti:

Professori 
Edellytämme: 

• korkeaa kansainvälisen tason tieteellistä pätevyyttä 
• kokemusta tieteellisen tutkimuksen johtamisesta 
• kykyä antaa korkeatasoista tutkimukseen perustuvaa opetusta ja ohjausta 
• näyttöjä täydentävän tutkimusrahoituksen hankkimisesta 
• näyttöjä kansainvälisestä tieteellisestä toiminnasta
