Around these themes, TAU has decided to further strengthen its chemistry activities through tenure-track appointment in the field of polymer chemistry.
The position will be opened in the Chemistry & Advanced Materials (CAM) research cluster of the Materials Science and Environmental Engineering Unit of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (ENS) at TAU. We focus on the themes of functional materials for light-driven technologies and solar energy, and synthesis of new compounds for, e.g., drug delivery and release, photodynamic therapies, and light-responsive materials. We are also part of the Finnish Flagship on Photonics Research and Innovation.
Job description
The tenure track position in polymer chemistry aims at strengthening the collaboration in soft matter research between the ENS Faculty and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET). We offer a multidisciplinary research environment with top-grade research facilities and ample collaboration possibilities with biomedical engineers, cell biologists, and medical doctors. Successful applicant is expected to have strong expertise in polymer synthesis. Focus on / outreach towards bio- and medical applications is considered as an asset.
The position will be opened for all levels of the tenure track system. The placement of successful candidate in the tenure-track system will be based on the experience and expertise of the person. The person is expected to pursue and supervise world class scientific research in the topical area in active collaboration with local, national, and global partners. The person will be expected to secure substantial external research funding as well as nurture interactions with relevant stakeholders for societal impact. While in the early career stages the focus is on research. In time the person is expected to contribute increasingly to teaching and curriculum development, especially in the area of polymer chemistry.
Requirements
You should have a doctoral degree in chemistry or a related field. Further requirements for each tenure track level are as follows:
Assistant Professor
We require:
- ability to undertake independent scholarly activity and potential to pursue scholarly activity at a high international level of excellence
- teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position.
Associate Professor
We require:
- track record of independent scholarly activity on a high international level
- teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position
- ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding.
Professor
We require:
- high-level scholarly or expertise
- experience of leading scientific research activities
- ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction
- track record of winning external research funding
- track record of international scholarly activity .

Your initial appointment as Assistant Professor / Associate Professor is fixed term for five years. Subject to successful performance, you will become tenured after the first five-year period. Full Professors are appointed on a permanent basis. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.
Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. A typical starting salary for an Assistant Professor is approximately 4400-4700 EUR/month and for an Associate Professor approximately 5100-5500 EUR/month and for a Professor approximately 6200-6600 EUR/month. Higher salaries may be negotiated for candidates with exceptional experience and/or performance.

Tehtävänkuvaus
Polymeerikemian tenure track -rekrytoinnilla vahvistetaan pehmeisiin materiaaleihin liittyvää tutkimus- ja opetusyhteistyötä ENS (tekniikka ja luonnontieteet) ja MET (Lääketiede ja terveysteknologia) -tiedekuntien välillä. Etsimme hakijaa, jolla on vahva osaaminen polymeerikemiassa, pääpaino polymeerisynteesissä. Lisäksi katsomme eduksi, että hakija on kiinnostunut polymeerien käyttämisestä bio- ja lääketieteen sovelluksissa.
Rekrytoitava henkilö voi sijoittua mille tahansa tenure track -tasolle kokemuksensa ja asiantuntemuksensa perusteella. Hakijan odotetaan johtavan oman alansa korkeatasoista tieteellistä tutkimusta ja osallistuvan aktiivisesti paikalliseen, kansalliseen ja kansainväliseen tutkimusyhteistyöhön. Hänen odotetaan hakevan ulkopuolista tutkimusrahoitusta sekä olevan tiiviissä vuorovaikutuksessa erilaisten sidosryhmien kanssa yhteiskunnallisen vaikutuksen saavuttamiseksi.
