We are looking for a doctoral student on contactless robotic manipulation using 3D spatially and temporally nonlinear energy fields. The candidate is expected to develop robotic manipulation systems to manipulate passive or active miniaturized agents in the energy fields by spatial and temporal control of the fields. Examples of the energy fields include acoustic, mangetic, fluidic flow, etc., which will be specified later. The candidate will work in a highly international, dynamic, and pioneering research group, including multidisciplinary collaboration with researchers/professors in different departments of Aalto University as well as in other universities internationally.

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation is a part of the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering. The position on intelligent robotic instruments is opened for the Robotic Instruments group (http://www.aalto.fi/robotinst) at the department.

This is a funded position and is immediately available. The salary is based on the university salary scheme.

REQUIREMENTS AND DETAILS

As a successful applicant, you should be highly motivated in miniaturized robotics research and have a background in one or several of the related fields: control engineering, robotics and automation, machine learning, applied physics, or related fields. Experiences in modelling of nonlinear systems, robotic devices,  deep learning, and/or software design are appreciated. Additional experience in contactless manipulation, micromanipulation, mobile microrobotics, or other topics relevant to the group’s activity is appreciated. We expect the applicant to be eager to work on both physical robotic systems and autonomous control algorithms and software including machine learning. The applicant is expected to be innovative, thinking out-of-box, eager to work across the disciplinary boundary, and hands-on.

The applicant should have or be expected to have an M.Sc. degree in the related field. The actual research topic of the position will be further specified during the recruitment process.

HOW TO APPLY

Please send your application as a single PDF file at your earliest convenience or by Friday 31.03.2023 through the online recruitment system. Email applications will not be considered. You can access the recruitment system through the "Apply now!" link below.
