Wärtsilä is an innovative technology company known for being a forerunner in the Marine and Energy markets. Every day, we – Wärtsilians - put our hearts and minds into turning Wärtsilä's purpose of enabling sustainable societies through innovation in technology and services into reality. Our ultimate aim is to provide increased value to both our customers and society. New, game-changing ideas and continuous improvement have been part of our DNA since 1834. Together, we can create new business opportunities and more sustainable future that we can all be proud of.

We want to transition the world towards a decarbonised and sustainable future. By pushing the boundaries of engineering and technology, we can make it work. We are always on the lookout for future-oriented talent – want to join the ride?

We are now looking for an Engine Expert to join our growing Fuel Injection Systems group, working for a better future. We are a part of Wärtsilä’s recognized Research & Development organization, and constantly looking for new talents to join our Team.

Location: The preferred location for the position is in Vaasa, Finland.

About the position:

In this position, your work will include participation in development projects of fuel injection equipment for new sustainable fuels, and for the traditional fuels to support engine development in Wärtsilä.

You should have a strong experience in performing CFD simulations in fuel injection systems with a clear understanding of injector and pump construction. In this position, you shall mainly perform internal flow simulations of fuel injection systems using opensource CFD code OpenFoam or a commercial code Star-CCM+. 1D-modelling experience of hydromechanical systems (e.g., GT-suite, Amesim) to compliment the CFD work would be a great advantage.

You will also coordinate fuel injection development projects with external suppliers and internal customers like laboratory test teams and other Expert Teams. You will also have a close co-operation with Wärtsilä Analysis team related to your simulation work. This is an important role to maintain R&D leadership in fuel injection, which is a key component area in the Wärtsilä future strategy with new sustainable fuels.

On a typical day, you might start with running simulations of a fuel Injector for alternative fuels, later that day you could be discussing with supplier about the details of the same Injector. You will not be working on this alone, even though the work requires a high level of independency, as you will have the support from other designers and experts.

As an ideal candidate for this position, you have a master’s degree in mechanical engineering with a very good understanding on fluid flow physics and numerical methods and hands on experience in using CFD codes. Exposure in working with NX cad modelling software and Teamcenter PLM software would be an added advantage to this position.

Our team is multinational, so good proficiency in English communication and team working skills are very much expected.
