In Wärtsilä’s Marine Business, Parts Services business unit with it’s 900 professionals in over 30 countries is accountable for sales, order and delivery of spare parts as well as the development of spare parts offering. We are passionate about helping customers to execute maintenance intervals and recover from unexpected maintenance needs with a complete range of spare parts for 4-stroke engines, propulsion, turbochargers, and auxiliary systems.  

In Parts Services Transactional Service Development, we play a role in creating compelling service offering concepts for transactional marine customers. In Transactional Service Development in Parts Services we are looking for a General Manager, Transactional Service Intelligence. 

As the General Manager, Transactional Service Intelligence, you are passionate about fact based decision making. You have an ability to deal with uncertainty, perform under tight deadlines yet while delivering high quality actionable insights about spare parts transactional competitors, suppliers, customers, entrants, markets and disruptors. You have previously worked in strategy, management consulting or business intelligence and you enjoy hands-on qualitative and quantitative analysis. You are a true believer that team work makes the dream work and you are a master collaborator across Wärtsilä. Your team of a transactional service intelligence manager and a data analyst work closely with you and the transactional service development team offering leads to ensure our offering is strongly positioned in the market. With your clear communications both verbal and written, you are able to influence business decision making to ensure we increase the share of wallet in the transactional customer space! 

The position holder will report to Director, Transactional Service Development. You share our values of customer success, passion and performance. The preferred location for this position is Helsinki, Turku or Vaasa in Finland. Any other Wärtsilä main location in Europe to be considered. 

In this position your main responsibilities are including:

You are responsible for working across Parts Services, Marine Power and required other Wärtsilä business units to gather and create intelligence needed for creating business insights for Parts Services purposes on both qualitative and quantitative transactional market, competitor, supplier, customer and potential new entrants. The role will lead a team of experts; for example, a Data Analyst and a Transactional Business Intelligence Manager to provide business insights on but not limited to:

  • Market analysis on forces influencing our lifecycle offerings (environmental, legislative, fuel development)
  • Market position & share (against competition) analysis
  • Competitor + competitor offering analysis; potential disruptors or entrants entering the field
  • Installed based development analysis (incl. lifetime development) combined with lifecycle product performance
  • Operational profile (fuel, sailing speed, running hours) development for installed base (customers, vessel types, PRTs)
  • Customer purchasing behaviour (of components, products, offerings) based on data 
  • Supplier analysis, forces affecting their behaviour, pricing changes and positioning

To succeed in this role, close co-operation with the Performance Services and Field Services and Workshops business development and intelligence is a must. This role focuses on ensuring we have all the relevant information to form actionable insights to help us determine where to play and how to win in the parts services and especially on the transactional part of the service value ladder.

The development responsibilities therefore include but are not limited to:

  • Communicable insights to business decision makers
  • Creating and forming a transactional business intelligence insights package
  • Ensuring that required data analysis is supported by Wärtsilä data assets
  • Ensuring that insights are visualised and end user value adding
  • Networking both internally and externally
  • Creating a transactional intelligence data maturity assessment and development plan
  • Leading a team of experts by the Wärtsilä Way leadership principles
  • Supporting transactional service offering development to ensure offering is positioned strongly in the market
  • The position will be responsible for creating feedback loops within Marine Power to gather relevant information in an automated manner.

Main requirements in this role:

  • You have a university or Msc degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance or Industrial Engineering or equivalent
  • You have minimum 8 years of experience and proven track record in business intelligence, top tier management consulting, corporate strategy/strategy development or financial analysis with demonstrated cases of impactful business insights and actions
  • You have proven track record of the ability to translate data from multiple quantitative and qualitative data sources into actionable business insights
  • You have demonstrated ability to build, model and test different business scenarios based on market, supplier, customer and competitor data/information
  • You have excellent presentation skills both written and verbal with demonstrated skills to create crisp executive summaries of complex topics
  • You have demonstrated business and financial modelling skills
  • You have demonstrated ownership and responsibility for driving own work and delegating to team members
  • You have industrial experience either from maritime or other relevant high volume transaction business
  • You are a team player with good communication and interpersonal skills, interest in maritime industry and analysis
  • You have proven track record of liaising and working with senior leaders across the business
  • You have demonstrated ability to build trust and influence stakeholders across organisation
  • You have a positive and proactive way of working and engaging relevant stakeholders
  • You have the ability to deal with uncertainty and tight deadlines
  • You have understanding of and experience from agile way of working
  • you role model Wärtsilä Way values and Wärtsilä Leadership Model behaviours
  • You are fluent in English language, other language skills are considered an advantage
