Exhibition Designer Trainee



As part of the Helsinki Design Week Designs for a Cooler Planet festival showcases radical ideas and creative prototypes under the theme of ‘Invisible – what don't we see even though we should?’ The festival will take place at Otaniemi and online on 6.9-6.10.2023, and we are showcasing more than 30 student and research projects from different schools of Aalto. Main venue for the exhibitions is at the Väre building.
We are now looking for an Exhibition designer trainee for the festival.
Your role
You will work in a team with other students who focus on graphic design and communications. Your responsibility is to do the main structures for the festival and visitor wayfinding plan to Väre. Your duties will be:

Design the exhibition structures and construct them yourself using Aalto’s studios

Ask quotes for materials and make material orders

Help in building-up and taking down the festival

Other general production tasks for making the festival to come alive
Please notice that you are not responsible for the exhibition design of every project that we exhibit at the festival. Your main task is to make the materials for the festival brand and only possibly help some specific projects to exhibit.
What we value?
We are looking for a design/architecture/interior architecture student who has ability to turn this year’s theme ‘Invisible’ to an interesting festival/exhibition look. To succeed in this, you need:

Skills to design and build exhibition structures (stands for posters etc.)

Ability to work in Aalto’s wood studio or other needed studios independently

Ability to draw layout drawings of the exhibition area
-
Planning and scheduling skills
-
Fluency in English or Finnish
-
Can do attitude and a sustainability-oriented mindset
What we offer?
This is a 50% part-time job for the period 9.5-10.10.2023. The starting date can be negotiated.
The salary is appr. 980–1150 €/month (with 50 % work time), depending on your experience and level of studies. Your working hours will be flexible and thus well combinable with your studies. In addition, you will have access to Aalto employee perks and benefits like, for example, occupational health care and staff training.
