As part of the Helsinki Design Week Designs for a Cooler Planet festival showcases radical ideas and creative prototypes under the theme of ‘Invisible – what don't we see even though we should?’ The festival will take place at Otaniemi and online on 6.9-6.10.2023, and we are showcasing more than 30 student and research projects from different schools of Aalto. Main venue for the exhibitions is at the Väre building.

Aalto’s Exhibitions Outreach is now looking for a Graphic designer trainee to design the visual identity and its applications for the festival.

Your role

You will work in a team with other students who focus on exhibition design and communications. You will be responsible for finishing all printed and digital materials of the main festival (not for the 30 individual projects):

• Design and execute a visual identity (print and digital) to make the Cooler Planet 2023 theme come alive

• Create print-ready files

• Turn the visual identity to suite our digital channels e.g., social media, aalto.fi pages, virtual exhibition platform as well as for the campus screens

Your will also:

• Prepare other communication material (invitation etc.)

• Install / put up the event together with the exhibition designer

• Ask quotes from the print houses

• Do different types of other assisting work

What we value?

We are looking for a designer student who can do extraordinary graphics with a sustainability in mind. Someone who can turn scientific knowledge to attractive visualizations and to a visual identity of the festival. To do this, you need to have:

• Visual communication design studies

• Experience in print design and production

• Ability and urge to create appealing visual identity and skills to turn the identity to suite both digital channels and print materials

• Basic planning and scheduling skills

• Fluency in English or Finnish

• Can do attitude

Special skills like animation, designing infographic elements etc. are considered as an advantage.

What we offer?

This is a 50% - 75% part-time job for the period 10.5-9.10.2023. The starting date can be negotiated.

We will hire either one student (75%) or then a student duo (both 50%) who can divide the workload together. You can apply as an individual designer or as a design duo.

The salary is appr. 980–1150 €/month (with 50 % work time), depending on your experience and level of studies. Your working hours will be flexible and thus well combinable with your studies.
