The Language Centre is a joint teaching and service unit for languages and communications at Aalto University both for students and staff. The goal of the Language Centre is to provide students and staff with language and communication skills that provide a strong foundation for success in both their studies and the world of work. Our courses are designed to equip students with the language and communication skills needed for success in the multilingual and multicultural working and teaching environments of today.

University Teacher or Lecturer in German

Your role

The role of a university teacher/lecturer is teaching-focused. In this position, you will be teaching German mainly at undergraduate level (A0 to B2). Your key duties will also include the development of courses and course content both independently and in collaboration with other German teachers to meet the needs of the various fields studied at Aalto University. The university teacher/lecturer position is offered as part of the Aalto University Language Centre lecturer career system, and it will be filled based on the merits of the candidate.

Your experience and ambitions

We expect you to hold a master’s degree in German Philology or German as a foreign language or equivalent majors. Excellent teaching skills are a further prerequisite.  We additionally expect you to have completed pedagogical studies, and we require good skills in using information and communication technology along with experience of working in a variety of learning environments. Experience in teaching in higher education institutions will be regarded as an advantage.

Additionally, you should have broad-based skills in the essential duties required by the position and a research-based pedagogical approach. We are seeking open-minded candidates who are passionate about teaching and have interest and aptitude for collaboration with German and other teachers at the Language Centre. Experience and interest in different teaching methods are a benefit. In this position, you need to have good skills in English and Finnish skills are an advantage.

Aalto University offers great opportunities for competence development and learning. The contract is full-time and permanent. Teaching staff work under an annual hour contract, which is currently 1,612 hours per academic year.
