About the position:

This is a permanent position and it is located in Vaasa.

What we offer:
Together we will bring intelligence to the machines and empower the people on the shop floor with the eyes of value creation, excellence, and innovation. We will define smart machine use cases and drive them through implementation, sometimes we will see incremental process improvements and sometimes true innovations, and sometimes we might even fail, that is however okay since we learn and will not make the same mistake again.
And the best part of it? You will be able to share the success with others when helping them to implement best practices in other factories.
As you can imagine, to succeed in this position, you must love technology and the Industrial Internet of Things, solving sometimes complex business problems with the help of software and data being oriented to focus on network security and system integration.

To do all of this, you will work in, and connect with the network of other experts:

  • Work with Cyber & Network security, cloud and analytics teams as well as engineering partners to define, design, and implement manufacturing systems supporting Smart Manufacturing strategy.
  • You will build your own network and act as a reference expert for OT-IT towards delivery centre operations. Here you will also share your learnings to secure competence in network growth.
  • You will also have the opportunity to identify potential business partners, capable of providing strategic competencies and help Wartsila to grow existing ones in the OT-IT domain.

Your main responsibilities in the network are:

  • To drive the transformation of our Industrial Assets towards connected integrated assets as part of our Smart Manufacturing Vision
  • To act as the main responsible for Proof Of Concepts for all STH-related studies and interactions between machines, networks and systems. As well as be part in the industrialization of successful PoCs with partners
  • To assume ownership of bringing all plant data sources to the Wartsila cloud solution step by step
  • To participate and sometimes drive the data engineering and analytics activities needed to serve the data in a meaningful and logical way to users

Things we are looking for in your background:

  • Understanding hand hands-on experience of existing market solutions and supporting services offered by cloud platforms such as Kepware, Azure IIoT or similar
  • Understanding of cyber security principles, virtualization, networking best practices and how they are implemented in existing market solutions
  • Understanding and experience in at least some of the most common industrial network and information network protocols such as Modbus, OPCUA, MQTT, AMQP.
  • Hands-on experience in programming preferably in C#, Java or python
  • Hands-on experience with databases and their different flavour (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS-SQL)
  • Basic understanding of data pipelines, data flow automation and how to integrate algorithms (e.g. Machine learning models)
  • Able to work independently and stay up to date with technology trends and opportunities in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment

You will stand out in this position if you have:

  • Have experience in building data pipelines and understanding of ETL and ELT
  • Have experience from tools used in data pipelines e.g. Azure data explorer, databricks, airflow
  • Have experience in devops tools from Atlassian stack or Azure
  • Personal interest or experience in training and development of machine learning algorithms

We will support your continuous learning with:

  • On the job training by leading and contributing to cross functional proof of concepts in Manufacturing with ecosystem experts
  • Providing business challenges in area of expertise
  • Offering training courses for new technology and skills to be developed

A typical workday:
A typical workday with us might start with supporting operations to resolve integration problems which is new and document how to solve it so it can be done without your support next time. After that you might continue working on a use case with you colleagues e.g. develop a proof of concept to control tightening procedures which involves connectivity challenges as well as data transfer, user interfaces in cloud applications with the goal to provide a good overall user experience for operators as well as securing that tightening is done according to specifications.
