Future robots need to possess human-like capabilities in areas such as perception, decision making, and reasoning. The Intelligent Robotics group (https://irobotics.aalto.fi) at Aalto University’s School of Electrical Engineering works actively to develop intelligent robotic systems with a particular emphasis on methods and systems that cope with incomplete knowledge and uncertain sensors. The research environment provides excellent opportunities for open-minded co-operation with highly motivated research staff as well as with top national and international partners, and access to state-of-the-art robot platforms. We are also deeply involved in a university-wide autonomous driving initiative (https://acas.fi/alex). The group is highly international, and the working language is English.

We are seeking one excellent candidate at doctoral student level to participate in the recently awarded "Hypermaps" research project: the aim of Hypermaps is to simplify the way robots access maps and help them correlate information from different maps. Methodological contexts in the project include a combination of robotic mapping, localization, navigation, computer vision, machine learning, and deep learning. The project involves academic collaboration with top research partners and industry collaboration both within Finland and internationally. For more information about the project, please check this page: https://irobotics.aalto.fi/hypermaps/
