Director, Business Development


We are looking for a Director, Business Development to lead the global Business Development team in Energy.
 
The Business Development team supports market development activities in Wärtsilä Energy globally by identifying, analysing and developing new value propositions for our customers by combining world-leading energy system modelling capabilities with market and business knowhow. The team provides expertise on future energy systems, markets and technologies and supports Wärtsilä Energy with capturing new business opportunities. The global Business Development team in Energy also coordinates and supports Energy’s sustainability work, as well as global thought leadership and advocacy. 
 
Director, Business development reports to Vice President, Strategy and Business Development.
Preferable location for the position is Helsinki, Turku, or Vaasa in Finland, other Wärtsilä locations are also possible.
 
In this role your main accountabilities include:

  • Build thought leadership on decarbonising energy systems and the role of flexibility and balancing
  • Develop content, proof points, business cases and storylines that position our solutions and services
  • Coordinate and lead Wärtsilä Energy’s global advocacy, engage and build relationships with key external organisations
  • Support Energy’s Sustainability work and coordinate internal alignment and collaboration on sustainability topics
  • Lead business development team, prioritize resources and coach team members in their work
  • Ensure that power system modelling knowhow and tools are continuously developed to maintain world class quality
  • Allocate resources for power system modelling and value quantification projects to support market development
  • Support market development capability development and participate in market development projects in an advisory role
  • Support energy business vision, strategy work and strategy execution
  • Support with techno-commercial feasibility studies on technologies, develop competences and facilitate knowledge sharing on new technologies impacting the energy industry

 
An ideal candidate:

  • Is an experienced leader with a solid background in energy and with experience of market development
  • Has a commercial mindset and strong skills in analysis and business case creation
  • Builds compelling storylines and content for thought leadership and influencing
  • Collaborates and builds bridges easily, draws on internal resources and competences to craft strong value propositions and compelling messaging and materials 
  • Builds high performing teams through coaching and developing team members. Builds & supports broader organisational competences. 
  • Creates clarity on direction and vision
  • Has strong relationship building, networking and presentation skills
  • Has a Master’s degree in Energy, Engineering, Finance, or another field that supports the task.
  • Has minimum 10 years’ experience from energy industry with in-depth knowledge of at least two or three of the following knowledge areas: optimization and analysis of power systems, energy & power generation technologies, techno-commercial modelling, energy policy and regulation, sustainability.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
