Doctoral Researcher in AI-Assisted Modeling in Economics

We are seeking a PhD student interested in developing and applying machine learning approaches to study economic questions. Some possible areas for research include how to incorporate machine learning into game theoretic and mechanism design problems with specific focus on how AI-assistants can be used in the design of robust mechanisms. We welcome strong applicants interested in doing a PhD supervised by Prof. Samuel Kaski from the Finnish Centre for Artificial Intelligence in collaboration with Prof. Otto Toivanen and Prof. Daniel Hauser from Helsinki Graduate School of Economics.

Your experience and ambitions

We expect the candidates to hold a MSc degree and/or have solid background in at least one of the following areas: machine learning, AI, or mechanism design. Previous experience in economics or game theory is an advantage. Furthermore, the candidate should have the ability to work independently toward the goals of their project.

The position requires excellent written and spoken English.

The position belongs to the Aalto career system and the selected person will be appointed for an initial two-year fixed term contract, and then another two-year extension after a successful progress review.

The starting salary for the position is 2 602,14 EUR per month. In addition to the salary, the contract includes occupational health benefits, and Finland has a comprehensive social security system. The annual total workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1 612 hours. The position is located at the Aalto University Otaniemi campus.
