The University of Turku is a world-class multidisciplinary research university which offers interesting challenges and a unique vantage point to national and international research and education. 
 
The Department of Computing, Faculty of Technology at the University of Turku is looking for 1-2 (fixed term positions) postdoctoral researchers or doctoral researchers/project researchers, or secondarily, research assistants in the field of health technology.  

The work is full-time and will start according to mutual agreement as soon as possible, from October 1st, 2023, at the earliest. The positions are fixed term ending on September 30th, 2027.  

The positions are in the STIMULUS project (Speckle Technology and Digital Biomarkers of Microvascular Function for Monitoring Cardiovascular Diseases), funded by a European Innovation Council Pathfinder grant. In this project, we develop new instruments for assessing adverse changes in microcirculatory status linked to hypertension, chronic kidney disease and heart failure, leading to earlier detection of cardiovascular diseases (over 60 million people in the EU suffer from them). The instruments are developed and validated in clinical trials. We integrate two state-of-the-art technologies leading to a novel innovation, 3D speckle tissue monitoring.  

The University of Turku leads the project and oversees a work package focusing on instrument development, biosignal analysis and extraction of novel digital biomarkers. As a postdoctoral researcher or doctoral researcher/project researcher or research assistant you will join the innovative health technology research group at the University of Turku and a consortium of leading research institutes from Netherlands, Denmark, France, and Germany.

A person selected for the position of Postdoctoral researcher is required to have a doctoral degree and the ability to do independent scientific work as well as having the necessary teaching skills. 

A person selected for the post of Doctoral researcher/Project researcher is required to have a higher university degree. The degree must be completed by the end of the application period. If the selected person already has a right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Turku, (s)he must also have an accepted research plan. In addition, when acquiring his or her degree or otherwise, he or she is required to have demonstrated the ability and motivation to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan. 

 
The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. For a postdoctoral researcher, the salary is on levels 4-6, which is 2720,86–3673,96 euros per month. In addition a personal work performance component will be paid. The personal performance component is 6% - 50% of the task-specific salary component. 

 
For a doctoral researcher/project researcher the salary will be on the job demands chart on levels 2-4, where the task-specific salary component is 2182,19–2720,86 euros per month. In addition a personal work performance component will be paid. The personal performance component is 6% - 50% of the task-specific salary component. 

 
If suitable candidate(s) cannot be found, we may also consider candidate(s) who have more or less completed all their coursework for the Master of Science degree in a suitable field and are ready to start their Master’s thesis in a topic within the boundaries of the project in question. In this case, the job title will be research assistant. For a research assistant, the salary is at level 1, where the task specific salary component is 1984,19 euros per month. In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid. The personal performance component is 6% – 50% of the task-specific salary component.


A six (6) month trial period applies to the positions.
