We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Doctoral Researcher to join our team and contribute to a strategic international research project.

Your role and goals

The candidate will work on a project that involves: interoperability technologies and standards of documents, models and technologies that provide the assurance/dependability of the data across different systems and industry value chains, for example, ensuring sustainability information exchange in company networks for calculating product environmental assessment in a holistic and detailed manner. The work is expected to lead to scientific publications in international academic conferences and particularly journals.

The doctoral researcher applicants must fulfill the admission requirements for the Aalto Doctoral Programme in Electrical Engineering. The candidate will work together with Aalto Factory of the Future team (https://www.aalto.fi/en/futurefactory ), which investigates radical concepts and methods that enable flexibility and high intelligence of industry sectors, based on various technology enablers such as Digital Twins, Artificial intelligence and the IEC 61499 distributed automation.

Your experience and ambitions

You must have a master’s degree in control / automation, mechatronics, computer engineering / computer science, or related areas. In addition, good proficiency in English is required, proven with official English test certificate.

We expect candidates to have good understanding and interest in industrial automation systems engineering and systems modeling and simulation, combined with solid software development (e.g., Python, Java, C/C++) & software engineering skills.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are paramount, combined with effective communication, good teamwork and positive collaboration attitude.

Having fundamental and/or practical knowledge of blockchain or distributed ledger technologies, industrial data spaces technologies, service-oriented architecture, cloud computing, or cybersecurity is highly appreciated.

Prior relevant industrial or research experience, or published papers in related domains is a significant plus.

The doctoral studies at Aalto University take approximately four years. The researcher is expected to commit to complete a Doctoral Dissertation (to obtain PhD degree) within this time in the project.
 

Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities. The starting (gross) salary for a Ph.D. student is approximately 2700 EUR/month. It will increase with achievements, such as scientific publications.
