Senior Scientist, Oncology, Antibody-Drug Conjugates




Description of Position
Antibody-Drug Conjugates Research Team is seeking a highly motivated, skilful, and independent Senior Scientist with experience in preclinical cancer research. You should have a track record of scientific excellence in modern cell- and molecular biology-based methodologies. As Senior Scientist you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers to advance the discovery of novel cancer targets and participate in the development of the first/best-in-class Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs) from concept to clinical candidate phase. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply the candidate's expertise in cancer research and contribute to the development of potentially lifesaving therapies.
Key Responsibilities
The candidate for this position will:
- Develop and execute strategies for target identification and evaluation.
- Perform target validation studies such as analysis of target expression, quantification, distribution, internalization, and intracellular trafficking.
- Conduct and/or coordinate in vitro experiments to assess the critical properties of ADCs and their components.
- Establish and implement novel assays to characterize ADCs.
- Provide cancer biology expertise and guidance for the project team/organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including medicinal chemists, pharmacologists, biologists, and clinical researchers to answer scientific questions and drive projects forward.
- Take charge of collaborations and externally partnered research.
- Perform data analysis of experimental results and regularly report work progress in the project team and organization meetings.
This permanent position is based in Turku, Finland, and you will report to the Head of the Antibody-Drug Conjugates Team.
Description of Unit
Antibody-Drug Conjugates Team is one of three scientific units in Oncology Research, a part of Orion's R&D Organization. Antibody-Drug Conjugates Team is focused on the discovery of therapeutic targets and active development of ADCs utilizing a broad panel of biophysical, biochemical, cellular, and in vivo methods. Essential Requirements
To be successful in this role, the candidate must have the demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following:
- Ph.D. or master's degree with 8+ years of academic or industry experience in a relevant discipline (Biological Sciences, Biochemistry or equivalent).
- Understanding of cell and molecular biology and/or biochemistry in the context of cancer biology.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience in cell- and molecular biology-based methodologies, including multichannel/multicolour flow cytometry, fluorescent and live cell microscopy, cytotoxicity assays, fluorescent labelling, qPCR, western blotting, and ELISA.
- Experience with routine 2D cell culture models.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary research team, and mentor junior team members.
- Strong desire to continue seeking new technological innovations supporting laboratory work.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience in the design and development of biologics and/or conjugates.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics and omics-type data analysis.
- Prior experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
