We are looking for a (Senior) Technical Expert, Engines to strengthen the Wärtsilä 32 Engine team within Wärtsilä Global Technical Services. The preferred location is Vaasa, Finland.
What will you be doing?
As a (Senior) Technical Expert, Engines, you will be working in our Technical Services department, a globally recognized technical knowledge centre within Wärtsilä, where you will be providing a high level of product related technical support to external and internal customers during the product lifecycle. The role works as the link between RDE and the field, identifying and initiating product improvements. You will be solving complex technical issues by acquired experience and know-how as well as by performing root cause analysis. The tasks also include performing investigations and field testing at customer premises when required. You will also be responsible for the technical content in aftersales information like engine manuals and service bulletins.
In this role, you will be traveling 30 – 90 days per year. When you are not traveling, you will have the possibility to work remotely two days per week, in accordance with our hybrid work model.
Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to:
- Providing high level engine expert support for internal and external Marine and Power Plant customers.
- Making product improvements and participating in the introduction of new engine types, design stages, and other products.
- Performing field testing of new products in the field.
- Making feedback analyses, product reports, and product documentation.
- Conducting site surveys and troubleshooting in the field.
- Following up and solving problems together with other technical departments.
- Supporting other departments in need of product and field related knowledge.
- Being an innovative expert in Wärtsilä’s expert organisation.
The below will enable you to shine in this role:
- B. Sc. or M. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education.
- Previous experience of 4-stroke engines, related auxiliary equipment, troubleshooting, or performance analyses.
- Motivation and genuine interest to work with 4-stroke engines.
- Experience with analysis and reporting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Service-minded and customer-oriented approach.
- Proactive, systematic, and organized way of working.
- Flexible attitude and ability to work independently.
- Ambition to learn, adapt to, and develop new technologies.
- Fluency in English, both verbal and written.
- Willingness to travel 30-90 days/year.
