Position information:

The location for the position is either in Vaasa, Finland or in Trieste, Italy.

What you will be doing:

In this position, your work will include Finite Element Modelling (FEM), Multibody System (MBS) and Optimization. On a typical day, you might be starting to build a model with Altair Simlab and end the day by submitting a Dassault Abaqus job in a Linux cluster. You will not be working on this alone, even though the work requires a high level of independence, as you will have support from the Senior Structural Analyst and Manager of Structural Analysis or Dynamics. You will be part of an international organisation, thus fluent communication and reporting skills in English are required.

For us to be the best match, you must understand Engineering Mechanics and have experience working with simulation software like Abaqus, Ansys, OptiStruct, and Nastran. You have gained experience from Siemens NX, and Altair pre-processing tools and have a degree from engineering mechanics. For you to succeed in the position, you need to have Strength of Materials, Dynamics, and Mathematics competencies and be willing to learn new skills and competencies.

As Calculation Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Performing and reporting mechanical simulations of 4-stroke engine components and assemblies, within product and technology development projects
  • Continuously seek structural integrity solutions, which bring technical and/or economical improvements to the present ones and advantages over competition
  • Problem-solving related to structural strength
  • Perform development tasks on tools and methodologies for Structural Analysis or Dynamics
  • Attend training activities aiming at maintaining or improving technical knowledge and skills

Requirements of the role:

  • BSc, MSc, or PhD in Engineering Mechanics or related studies
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken, is a requirement in this role
  • Programming skills, for example, in Python, Julia, Matlab, C++
  • Can-do attitude and self-guiding way of working is required
  • Willingness to learn new skills and competencies

In this role, some travelling is required to meet our partners and to attend trainings and conferences. Thus, we hope you to be ready to travel approximately 5%, even though most of the meetings are held virtually.

Why you and us?

We at Wärtsilä believe in empowerment, ownership, and taking responsibility for our work. We support each other’s growth and co-creation is the true basis of our innovation. We have the courage to see opportunities and take initiative.
We are authentic and honest, and we strongly believe that by being your own true self you can accomplish so much more. We don’t always get it right the first time, and if mistakes are made, we make sure to learn and grow from them. We want everyone to voice their opinions freely. That is why we have built an environment that empowers you and everyone around you, and where you can feel safe and cared for. Are you eager to be part of this ambition?
We have an amazing team, and we are excited about our work and the impact it has on building sustainable societies. We are looking to find a colleague with this shared passion for smart technologies and a sustainable future. “The work in our team offers a wide range of interesting projects and we truly have an amazing team spirit. We hope to find a team member who shares the same passion we have, and we are excited to get our new team member on board” says Teemu Kuivaniemi, who is one of the team members.
In addition to the core team, you will be working closely with Component Experts and Designers.
