Master thesis for Boosting Creative Entrepreneurship on Campus: A Case Study of School of Arts, Design and Architecture

The main objective of this master thesis is to develop a framework for boosting creative entrepreneurship on Aalto University campus through a comprehensive literature review and an empirical case study of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture graduates. The purpose is to enhance the success probability of growth-oriented firms from creative sectors originating from Aalto University’s multi-disciplinary entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive literature review on building and boosting entrepreneurial ecosystems for creative sectors on university campuses, as well as distinctive characteristics of successful creative entrepreneurship. 
  • Investigate Aalto University's current entrepreneurial ecosystem for creative sectors, its structure, key stakeholders, and the programs, initiatives, and activities it encompasses. Identify development areas in current support services for creative entrepreneurship. 
  • Collect empirical data from Aalto University’s School of Arts, Design and Architecture domestic and international graduates to enrich the understanding of their needs and perceived gaps related to supporting growth-oriented creative entrepreneurship on campus. Development areas may include entrepreneurial education, business skills, professional networks, team building, co-working spaces, tools, financing, multi-disciplinary cooperation, and entrepreneurial culture. 
  • Collect data of successful and unsuccessful firms in the creative sectors founded by School of Arts, Design and Architecture alumni, and study their factors of success. 
  • Develop a framework for boosting growth-oriented creative entrepreneurship on and from Aalto University campus, focusing on identifying the stages and activities that generate the most significant impact and the most suitable metrics for measuring these impacts.
  • ·Provide recommendations for the assessment, metrics, development and management of entrepreneurial ecosystems for creative sectors on campus. 
  • Write and submit a well-structured master thesis, including a comprehensive literature review, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusion sections.

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in a relevant master's degree program at Aalto University, such as strategic management, innovation management, information networks, entrepreneurship, or a related field.
  • Strong background in research methods, data analysis, and statistical techniques.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with university innovation ecosystems, entrepreneurship, and radical creativity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of motivation, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Previous experience with or knowledge of entrepreneurship in the creative sectors and industries is a plus.

The selected candidate will receive supervision and support from a faculty member with expertise in the subject area. They will also have access to relevant resources, such as academic articles, databases, and case studies, to facilitate their research.

The master thesis worker position is a full-time position for 6 months with a salary of 2641,15 €/month.
