The Expert, Electrical Systems will play an essential role in the development and maintenance of HV Substation and Transformers for Wärtsilä Engine Power Plant solutions. This position offers the opportunity to work in Vaasa, Finland, with the possibility of other locations within Finland being negotiable. We also provide the option for hybrid remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and support HV substations and transformers for engine power plants in collaboration with internal stakeholders and suppliers
  • Support overall plant electrical systems and solutions development (e.g. LV/DC/MV), serving as an expert resource in technology development projects
  • Ensure top-notch data quality and maintain a sales-ready electrical systems portfolio in cooperation with other experts
  • Identify and support development opportunities for data-centric business/services on IEDs
  • Provide technical support to sales and customer delivery projects, updating technology as needed
  • Continuously improve field installation experience and follow-up

An ideal candidate has:

  • MSc or BSc in Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline, with 5+ years of relevant working experience
  • Hands-on knowledge of electrical machinery/equipment, including HV substation systems, transformers, and protection relays
  • Familiarity with relevant compliance and industry standards with an emphasis on electrical safety
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong planning and execution abilities
  • Positive, results-oriented mindset and self-driven approach
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken

Skills that are seen as a benefit: 

  • Understanding of the energy market
  • Knowledge of industrial control and communication protocols
  • Familiarity with mainstream vendors/OEMs and product know-how
  • Experience in performing start-up, troubleshooting, and commissioning support
  • Familiarity with Agile principles and practices
