The Language Centre is a separate unit of Aalto University responsible for language and communication studies included in the university's undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. In addition, we organize language services for the university, including language and communication training for the staff. Our goal is to actively develop language and communication education at the university.

We are now seeking a temporary substitute for the Language Centre at Aalto University as a university teacher in Swedish.

Your tasks:

In this role, you will be responsible for teaching the second national language, Swedish, and preparatory courses. The position is teaching-oriented and include teaching Swedish for specific fields, creating teaching materials, assessments, and holding exams. You will teach Swedish at the B1-B2 level according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages. The target group for teaching is undergraduate students from different fields at Aalto. The language of instruction is Swedish, and Finnish may be used as a support language when necessary. The position also includes developing teaching content and methods according to the needs of different fields at Aalto University. Teaching courses in the afternoon and evening is possible in this role.

Your qualifications:

You have a relevant higher education degree that includes major studies or equivalent in the teaching subject (Swedish language, Nordic languages/philology, or equivalent). You may also be a student in the final stages of your studies. For this position, you will need experience in teaching languages and communication skills in various learning environments, as well as a good understanding of different teaching methods and the use of technology in teaching.

We value pedagogical competence relevant to the position. It is important to us that you have an open and enthusiastic attitude towards teaching and cooperate actively within the Swedish team, the Language Centre, and the entire Aalto University community. Teaching experience at the higher education or university level is considered an advantage but not mandatory. We appreciate a student-centered teaching approach and creative teaching solutions. Teaching skills will be assessed based on the interview and interview/pre-assignment.

What we offer:

The teaching staff has 1612 annual working hours. This position is a temporary substitution that lasts approximately 9-10 months. The employment begins on August 19, 2024.
