Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences create a unique environment for multidisciplinary, inspirational and high-impact research and education. Our universities community has its competitive edges in technology, health and society. www.tuni.fi/en

The Hybrid Solar Cells at Tampere University, Finland, is pleased to announce the opening of a Postdoctoral Researcher position on “Perovskite-like photovoltaics”. Our group is engaged in research on solution-processed photovoltaics with a special emphasis on halide perovskite and perovskite-like solar cells. We have recently focused on lead-free perovskite-inspired materials for indoor photovoltaics, and we expect that these activities will expand over the next few years. We have access to state-of-the-art solar cell laboratories, with the possibility to cover from the synthesis of the materials, their characterization with a wide set of facilities available at Tampere University (e.g. UV-Vis, PL, XRD, SEM, XPS, and more), to the solar cell complete fabrication (e.g., 2 glove boxes, thermal evaporator, spin-coaters etc) and characterization (e.g., parallel J-V scans, EQE, stability characterization according to ISOS protocols). We rely on a broad academic network of leading international collaborators in the field of photovoltaics and perovskites.

Photovoltaics and photonics are recognized as leading-edge research areas of Tampere University. We offer a world-class research environment in an internationally recognized research group.

Job Description

To strengthen our team, we are looking for a talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to lead the research project “Perovskite-like photovoltaics”, which requires a strong background in perovskite-based photovoltaics and their operation under 1 Sun illumination as well as low-light intensity illumination. The project involves solution-processing of films, composition engineering, device fabrication and characterization.

You will be integrated in a team of students and senior researchers with competences ranging from chemistry, physics, device engineering. You may also be involved in the supervision of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and some teaching duties in the future.

This position also involves collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to push the boundaries of current knowledge and technology in this field, publishing research findings in highly ranked journals, presenting at international conferences, and collaborating with a broad network of international collaborators.

Requirements

Applicants are expected to meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Ph.D. degree in electronics, chemistry, physics, materials science, nanotechnology or a closely related field, with a specialization in photovoltaics, particularly solution-processed ones.
  • Have a strong background and technical expertise in device fabrication, solution processing of films, understanding of photovoltaics operation.
  • Understanding of device physics and transient and dynamic tests (e.g., transient photovoltage/photocurrent, EIS) and indoor photovoltaics characterization is a big plus.
  • Experience in XRD, SEM, or AFM characterization is a plus.
  • Some programming experience with Python is appreciated.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English is necessary. Proficiency in Finnish is not required.

Tampere University is a unique, multidisciplinary, forward-thinking, and evolving community. Our values are openness, critical thinking, diversity, learner-centredness, courage, erudition, and responsibility. We hope you can embrace these values and promote them in your role.

We offer
