Design Factory (https://designfactory.aalto.fi/) is an experimental co-creation platform for interdisciplinary teaching and learning. Altogether 35-40 Aalto University courses are utilizing the spaces and Design Factory expertise in a typical academic year. Roughly 30% of the floor space is dedicated to workshops that support the learning activities, e.g. Machine, Electro and Print Shops.

We are now seeking for a Graphic Designer for a permanent, full-time position

Your role and goals

Your role will be part of the service staff of Design Factory. The tasks include general helping in typical daily routines of Design Factory, such as hosting visitors, maintenance tasks, participating in common staff activities, participating specific development projects or requests from the Design Factory Global Network amongst others. However, the main responsibilities include the following:

●    Lead regular in-house design and publication projects (digital and print) for eg.

Annual Report, Global Design Factory Network publications, Design Factory Book, DF Bootcamp material, flyers, posters, website maintenance etc.

●    Help students, teachers and researchers with their needs and queries about

communication design
●    Develop and maintain the info graphics everywhere at DF and contribute in

the development and maintenance of these in the common building areas, in order to guarantee smooth people and process flow

●    Supporting the function of prototype labs especially cut and ink, printshop, VR

lab
●    Coaching/teaching modules in courses/workshops

●    Designing workshops for different audiences and visitors
●    Other in-house projects and developing them

Your team

You will work closely with other in-house designers and experts. While there are existing structures in place, the team is very open minded and keen to constantly develop the space and try out new experiments.

Your experience and ambitions

We highly appreciate it if you already have an understanding about the Design Factory concept. That understanding may have been built as a student on DF courses or as a teacher/assistant or in at similar roles at another Design Factory somewhere in the global network.

At the Design Factory, the students should come first, and we are looking for a person with teaching experience or experience of mentoring/coaching student teams. We wish that you are passionate about the process of learning and understand the role of teachers and support staff in supporting students’ learning.

Design Factory is a dynamic and continuously developing environment, where the community is our main asset. Therefore, good team working and communication skills are mandatory, as well as general project skills including planning, execution and timely closing and handing over the results. You need to have good communication skills in English. Knowledge of Finnish language is a bonus but not mandatory. The level of skills required for this role would have been ideally acquired through a relevant academic degree or other equivalent extensive work experience. In addition to the academic qualification, we require you to have practical hands-on experience of having executed communication design projects.

Salary is based on university salary system, depending on experience (range 3205 € - 3345 €/ month).
