Global Technical Services is a globally recognised technical knowledge centre within Wärtsilä. The main task of Technical Services is to provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders during the lifecycle of products and solutions delivered or serviced by Wärtsilä.

We are now looking for an enthusiastic Technical Expert to join our skilled Engine Automation team. The role is offered as a permanent contract and can be based in Turku, Vaasa, or Helsinki, Finland. We encourage applicants of various seniority levels, as this role can be offered as either Technical Expert or Senior Technical Expert.

What will you be doing?

As a Technical Expert in the Engine Automation team, you will provide our internal and external customers with high level technical support on automation and control related matters. You will be performing investigations, creating and maintaining technical documentation and reports, along with initiating and supporting product improvement projects. You will be solving complex technical issues by acquired experience and know-how, collaborating closely with other technical departments to enable efficient world-class support.

In this exciting and flexible role, you will have the opportunity to travel for up to 90 days per year to meet with our customers around the world. Thus, we hope that you are ready and willing to travel as required. When you are not traveling, you are able to work partially remotely in accordance with our hybrid work model.

Your responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to: 

  • Providing high level technical support for internal and external customers.
  • Conducting site surveys and troubleshooting in the field.
  • Handling engine software configuration, updates, and backups.
  • Collecting field feedback, creating feedback analyses and product reports.
  • Preparing service bulletins, manuals, investigation reports, survey reports, and other relevant technical documentation.
  • Initiating, leading and supporting product and process development projects.
  • Following up and solving problems together with other technical departments within Wärtsilä.
  • Supporting other departments in need of product and field related knowledge.
  • Supporting new product introductions through testing and validation.
  • Being an innovative expert in Wärtsilä’s expert organisation.

The below will enable you to succeed in this role:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Automation Engineering or similar educational field, or relevant work experience to compensate for lack of formal education.
  • Experience with engine automation systems and controls.
  • Experience with UNIC is considered an advantage.
  • Strong technical reporting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Structured, analytical, proactive, and flexible way of working.
  • Customer-focused and collaborative attitude.
  • Quality and safety-oriented mindset.
  • Ambition to learn, adapt to, and develop new technologies.
  • Proficient English language skills, both written and spoken.
  • Swedish or Finnish language skills will be considered an advantage.
  • Openness and flexibility to travel as required.
  • Drive for the common goal of providing our customers with the best possible service experience.
