We are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the context of the HARECY consortium, a collaborative project between Dr. Eric Dufour’s group at Tampere University and Dr. Jaakko Pohjoismäki’s group at the University of Eastern Finland. 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

The project investigates how evolutionary divergence between two closely related hare species (Lepus timidus and Lepus europaeus) leads to differences in cell cycle dynamics and regulation at both physiological and molecular levels. The work integrates core molecular and cell biology methods with advanced live-cell confocal imaging, single-cell ATAC-seq, and nascent RNA transcriptomics. You will lead this development with the support of the team and co-inventor Mikael Marttinen. A doctoral researcher will assist you experimentally, and additional support for both data analysis and wet-lab validation will be provided by our Joensuu collaborators. 

The project seeks to uncover mechanisms linking life history strategies and cell cycle regulation. While relevant to species conservation, the findings are also expected to contribute to cancer biology and the understanding of cellular senescence. 

REQUIREMENTS 

A successful candidate holds a Ph.D. with demonstrated expertise in single-cell analysis and has proven ability to independently conduct molecular biology and cell culture experiments. 

The position also requires: 

• Good English language skills 

• Ability to independently conduct systematic scientific research 

• Ability to work in a team and communicate clearly in a multidisciplinary and international environment

WE OFFER 

The positions will be filled for a fixed-term period of 16 months, with the possibility of contract extension. The starting date will be mutually agreed, but no later than autumn 2025. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees. 

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. A typical starting salary for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow is 3800-4000 EUR per month.
