Nico is looking for
DevOps & Backend Engineer – IOT Data Services & Analytics Business Applications
for a client's product development team through a try-and-hire model.
In the try-and-hire model, you are first employed by Nico, typically for a period of 12 months, and you work full-time as a consultant on the client's project. After the agreed-upon rental period, the client has the option to recruit you as a permanent employee.
You’ll join a team building a production-grade, real-time data infrastructure to power operational monitoring, analytics, and potentially ML applications in the chemical industry. This role sits at the intersection of streaming data, IoT, and scalable engineering, with flexibility to explore new tech and influence architecture decisions.
Required qualifications in this role
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering. or a related field
- Proven experience in implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, integration, and deployment of containerized backend, user interface and data processing applications with Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, or Azure Kubernetes Service. Building, deploying, and managing containerized applications.
- Hands-on experience in CI/CD tools and platforms such as Github
- Solid understanding of test automation practices, including unit, integration and acceptance testing for backend microservices and time-series data processing pipelines
- Familiarity with infrastructure as a code (IaC) tools, (e.g. Terraform) and managing cloud deployments.
- Experience in containerized application development using Docker and Kubernetes or similar orchestration tools
- Competence in monitoring and observability and familiarity with observability stacks, i.e. logging, metrics collection, reporting and alert setups.
- Setting up monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor, and Datadog.
- Involvement in DevSecOps practices including integrating security scans, secrets management and policy enforcement into CI/CD workflows
- Collaboration and Automation by bridging the gap between development and operations teams, and by promoting automation to improve efficiency and reduce manual errors.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure services is highly preferred
- Solid understanding of cloud networking concepts (DNS, firewalls, subnets, ingress/egress, load balancers).
- Good language skills in English (spoken and written); Finnish language skills are considered an advantage
Knowledge which we appreciate in the future but not mandatory
- Experience in developing or contributing to backend business microservices, preferably using Spring Boot, FastAPI, or similar frameworks.
- Working knowledge of SQL and time-series databases (PostgreSQL, Timescale DB)
- Understanding of stream processing systems like Apache Flink, especially in context of orchestration and deployment
- Familiarity with data validation and developing tests for time-series data including synthetic data generation, edge case detection, etc.
- Cybersecurity knowledge and best practices
Other technical skills which are an advantage but not mandatory
- Experience in working with industrial process data or working with IoT systems
- Knowledge of network policies, zero-trust architecture, or service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio).
- Experience with security scanning tools (e.g., Trivy, Snyk, Azure Defender) and integrating them into CI/CD workflows.
As a person, you are proactive, technically skilled and take initiative. You also have strong problem-solving skills to solve problems and work in a diverse team and see solutions rather than problems.
You will also play a key role in growing DevOps maturity across the team. Mentoring developers in CI/CD, containerization, and infrastructure as code practices. Your ability to collaborate and enable others is just as important as your technical expertise.
You can be located anywhere in Finland. We expect you to be prepared to visit the client regularly in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
