The power systems around the globe are undergoing major transformations where the share of synchronous generation is decreasing in the generation mix. At Wärtsilä Energy we are committed to decarbonisation of energy and enabling 100 % renewable power generation. To be prepared for the transformation, regulators and grid operators are developing the requirements and novel market mechanisms. The Power Systems team has the invaluable role to ensure Wärtsilä’s market position, competitiveness and compliance to regulation and requirements worldwide. We do this by our expertise in power systems, grid code requirements and modelling and simulation.

We are looking for a Senior Development Engineer, Power Systems to bring expertise in power systems, modelling and simulations, and grid code requirements.

The Senior Development Engineer, Power Systems will be reporting to the General Manager, Power Systems. Preferred location is Vaasa, Finland, but also Wärtsilä locations in Helsinki or Turku can be considered.

Your work will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Performing modelling and simulations of Wärtsilä’s synchronous engine power plant solutions using tools such as PowerFactory and PSCAD
  • Conducting global grid code requirement analysis to ensure compliance and optimal performance of Wärtsilä engine power plants
  • Automating simulation and analysis tasks using tools like Python
  • Identifying development needs and leading or executing studies and small-scale development projects

To be able to succeed in the position, we expect you to have:

  • Education
    • Master's degree in Power Engineering
  • Experience
    • More than 4 years of experience in power systems simulations and grid code compliance studies
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities
    • Analytical mindset and ability to distinguish relevant information
    • Ability to collaborate in a team and support other team members
    • Ability to write concise reports
    • Ability to work in a consultative manner with internal and external stakeholders
    • Experience within power system control and stability
    • Experience with simulation automation with Python or similar
    • Fluent written and spoken English
