Research Group Description:

The Manufacturing Systems Research Group (MASYRE) comprises skilled professionals and researchers who are experts in manufacturing technologies and engineering design. The group's unique focus is on metamodeling approaches for engineering simulations and decision support, particularly in contexts with limited data. MASYRE combines modelling, simulation and experimentation to develop integrative metamodeling approaches, qualitative systems analysis methods and causal graph-based solutions for machine learning. The team aims to advance innovative and robust solutions in manufacturing systems.

Role description:

In relation to our new REINFORCE project, we are recruiting several new doctoral students at Tampere University. The doctoral students will actively participate in a breakthrough research project that will lead to a new approach to design and manufacturing. The position requires solid skills and motivation. We are especially looking for students who can formalize research problems and have strong competencies in mathematics, programming, engineering design and manufacturing.

Job description

We have 2 funded doctoral researcher positions open to candidates willing to carry out a research project towards a doctoral degree (Dr. Sc. (Tech) / PhD). The positions are currently funded for 2 years with an additional 1 year funding related to the phase 2 of the REINFORCE project. The doctoral researchers selected will  carry out research in the MASYRE research group.

Requirements

A necessary requirement is a M.Sc. degree in a relevant field (related to computing science or automation science with ideally knowledge in engineering and manufacturing engineering). Other requirements are a motivation letter, CV and transcripts of records.

The candidates are selected based on the researcher potential demonstrated through the previous studies and merits in research work and thesis writing.

Please note that along commencing in the position, the selected candidates must also apply for a study right within the doctoral program, unless they already have one. The selected candidates will be informed about this separate procedure later.

We offer

We offer the successful candidates fully funded positions as Doctoral researchers, commencing in October 2025 or as mutually agreed. We offer you high-quality supervision and the freedom to develop your ideas in a supportive and inspirational research environment. A trial period of six (6) months applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities. A starting salary for Doctoral Researchers is typically between 2600-2850 EUR/month. Our incentive salary system for Doctoral Researchers ensures salary increases based on the progress of the doctoral degree and thesis.

We offer a wide range of staff benefits, such as occupational health care, flexible working hours, excellent sports facilities on campus and several restaurants and cafés on campus with staff discounts. Please read more about working at Tampere University.

We are inviting you to be a part of a vibrant, active and truly international research community. Interdisciplinarity is highly encouraged, as it allows you to expand your research network and exposes you to new perspectives and ideas to solve complex research problems and pursue novel research findings. The university has a strong commitment to the highest level of scientific research and the provision of high-quality doctoral education. Through rigorous research within your field, you will have the opportunity to make an impact on science, advancement of technology, and economic and societal change. Doctoral studies provide an excellent theoretical and technical foundation upon which you can build your future career at the highest national and international levels.

Uuden REINFORCE-projektimme yhteydessä rekrytoimme uusia tohtoriopiskelijoita Tampereen yliopistoon. Meillä on avoinna 2 rahoitettua väitöskirjatutkijan paikkaa hakijoille, jotka ovat halukkaita toteuttamaan tutkimusprojektin tohtorintutkinnon (Dr. Sc. (Tech) / PhD) suorittamiseksi.

Vaatimukset
