The Doctoral Programme in Business and Technology Management (TOTO), provides students with excellent research skills, broad expertise in industrial engineering and management and an in-depth understanding of information and knowledge management. Our doctoral researchers develop technological and business expertise that allows them to create new scientific knowledge and address societally significant challenges that require in-depth analysis. Students can complete the following doctoral degrees: Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science (Technology). Job description 

We have two Doctoral Researcher (postgraduate student) positions open to candidates willing to pursue a doctoral degree (D. Sc. Tech. / PhD). The positions are fully funded for 1-3 years. The doctoral researchers are expected to carry out research in one of the two departments involved in the doctoral program: 

1) Industrial Engineering and Management (1 position)

The unit of Industrial Engineering and Management examines the production and economic activities of technology-based organizations comprehensively. Research interests in Industrial Engineering and Management are related to sustainable value creation in technology-driven organizations. Our interests lie in the management of industrial firms in a safe, sustainable, innovative, and efficient way. We search for answers to questions such as how organizations create and utilize resources in creating value efficiently and effectively, and what resources do organizations need in a technology-centric, dynamic industry to achieve sustained competitive advantage.

2) Information and Knowledge Management (1 position)

The unit of information and knowledge management (NOVI) conducts research related to value creation in the areas of information systems management, knowledge-based management and digital business. Our research interests are on offering, utilizing, and managing information and knowledge in organizations to improve their competitive advantage. We search answers to questions such as how information and/or knowledge is best used by different stakeholders, how it is offered, how it creates value, how it can be improved, and why different challenges and obstacles emerge.

Requirements 

The persons selected to the positions are expected to:

• have a Master's degree or equivalent from a university completed by 31 December 2025 
• fulfill the eligibility requirements for the Doctoral Programme (see Eligibility criteria) 
• must complete their research plan and apply to the Doctoral Programme in Business and Technology Management officially before the beginning of the doctoral researcher job, in line with the doctoral programme’s application guidelines (unless they already have a doctoral study right in the programme).  

Successful candidates are selected based on the level of scientific promise they show. This will be evaluated on the basis of their research and study plans as well as their track record in previous studies. Evidence of the progress of the doctoral dissertation and/or scientific publishing is considered an advantage.  

Priority will be given to applicants who have not received full-time funding for four years before the end of the application period.  

Before applying, the applicant must secure a responsible supervisor for their doctoral thesis by communicating with the Unit that is closest to the subject area of their thesis.

Note. Applicants for Doctoral Researcher positions have to separately apply for the Doctoral programme in Business and Technology Management (TOTO), if they have not already been granted the right to pursue doctoral studies in TOTO.

 We offer 

The doctoral researcher positions will be filled for a fixed-term period beginning preferably January 1, 2026. The positions will be filled for 1-3 years. The duration of the employment period depends on the research phase. A trial period (of six months) applies to all our new employees.  

The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. The position of Doctoral Researcher is placed on the job demand level 2-4 (in the demand level chart for teaching and research staff). In addition, employees will receive performance-based salary, such as OV2 + 19% = 2714 EUR. Our incentive salary system for Doctoral Researchers ensures that the salary increases as the doctoral thesis and studies progress.

Teknis-taloudellisessa tohtoriohjelmassa (TOTO) koulutetaan tuotantotalouden ja tietojohtamisen tohtoreita. Tohtoriohjelmassa on avoinna väitöskirjatutkijan rahoitettuja tehtäviä. 

Teknis-taloudelliseen tohtoriohjelmaan on avoinna kaksi rahoitettua väitöskirjatutkijan tehtävää. Tehtävät sijoittuvat tuotantotalouden ja tietojohtamisen alueille.

Tehtävänkuvaus 

 Väitöskirjatutkijan tehtävänä on: 

• suorittaa tohtorin tutkinto Tampereen yliopistossa Teknis-taloudellisessa tohtoriohjelmassa sekä 
• osallistua lisäksi opetustoimintaan ja muihin määriteltyihin tehtäviin. 

Edellytykset 

Tehtävään valittavalta edellytämme 

• ylempää (viimeistään 31.12.2025 valmistuvaa) korkeakoulututkintoa, 
• tohtoriohjelman hakukelpoisuusvaatimusten täyttämistä (katso Hakukelpoisuusvaatimukset) sekä 
• valmista tutkimussuunnitelmaa ja hakemista Teknis-taloudelliseen tohtoriohjelmaan ennen väitöskirjatutkijan työn alkamista tohtoriohjelman hakuohjeiden mukaisesti (ellei sinulla jo ole jatko-opinto-oikeutta ohjelmassa). 

Valinnan perusteena on hakijan tieteellinen lupaavuus, jota arvioidaan esitetyn tutkimus- ja opintosuunnitelman sekä aiemmissa opinnoissa osoitetun menestyksen perusteella. 

Näytöt väitöskirjatyön etenemisestä ja/tai tieteellisestä julkaisemista ovat eduksi. 

Tehtävää täytettäessä otetaan huomioon myös hakijan aikaisempi päätoimiseen väitöskirjatyöskentelyyn saama rahoitus. Etusijalla ovat ne hakijat, jotka ennen hakuajan päättymistä eivät ole saaneet päätoimista työskentelyä mahdollistavaa rahoitusta neljää vuotta. 

Hakijalla on ennen hakemuksen jättämistä oltava ohjaussuhde yksikköön, jonka alaan väitöskirja kuuluu. 

Tarjoamme 

Tehtävä täytetään mieluiten 1.1.2026 alkaen ja määräaikaisesti 1-3 vuoden ajalle. Työsuhteen kesto määräytyy väitöskirjatyön vaiheen perusteella. Tehtävässä on työehtosopimuksen mukainen koeaika. 

Tehtävän palkkaus määräytyy yliopistojen opetus- ja tutkimushenkilöstön palkkausjärjestelmän mukaisesti. Tehtävän alustava vaativuustaso on 2-4. Lisäksi maksetaan henkilökohtaiseen työstä suoriutumiseen perustuvaa palkanosaa. Tehtävästä saatu ansio kasvaa palkkausmallin mukaisesti väitöskirjatyön edetessä.
