Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences create a unique environment for multidisciplinary, inspirational and high-impact research and education. Our universities community has its competitive edges in technology, health and society. www.tuni.fi/en

The Many-Body Theory group works in the field of many-body physics and the computational study of solid state. Using our expertise in many-body theory, we study various phenomena in solids, including the quantum nuclear effect on the electronic structure of solids and superconductivity. Our computational studies are made possible by the strong research infrastructure of Tampere University and CSC – IT Center for Science. For these efforts, we are now looking for a talented postdoctoral researcher who is motivated to work on high-level fundamental research.

Job description

The Many-Body Theory group is looking for a doctoral researcher to work on the computational study of quantum nuclear effects in solids. The project is well-funded as part of the Theory Program of the Helsinki Institute of Physics. The focus of the project is to study quantum nuclear effects on various properties of solids by developing an in-house program package and conducting computations on realistic solids using supercomputer resources provided by CSC.

We encourage all interested applicants, irrespective of their gender or background, to apply!

If you are interested in working in a young research group to establish a novel branch of solid-state research, we would be happy to receive your application and look forward to welcoming you to our open and stimulating research environment.

Requirements

Candidates must hold an internationally recognized masters degree in physics, mathematics, or chemistry research, ideally in the field of computational condensed matter physics. If the degree has not yet been completed, applicants must complete their degree during the recruitment period. Good written and spoken English skills are essential. Knowledge of the programming language Python is mandatory. Expertise in program development, and experience with the Quantum ESPRESSO program package are advantageous.

The candidate should also enjoy working in an international, collaborative research group, enjoy working with colleagues (national and international), and be willing to help supervise Bachelor’s  students, as well as participate in teaching tasks.

We offer

The  Doctoral Researcher position will be offered for three years and will be preferably filled in the beginning of 2026 with some flexibility in the starting date. Tehtävänkuvaus

Monenkappaleen Teoria -tutkimusryhmä etsii tutkijatohtoria työskentelemään laskennallisesti atomin ytimien kvanttimekaanisen luonteen vaikutusta kiteisten aineiden ominaisuuksiin. Projekti on vakaasti rahoitettu yhtenä HIP (Helsinki Institute of Physics) teoriaohjelmista. Tehtävään liittyvän tutkimuksen pääpainopiste on laskennallisessa ydinten kvanttimekaanisten ominaisuuksien vaikutuksesta kiteisten aineiden ominaisuuksiin, kuten niiden elektronirakenteeseen. Projektilla on käytössään CSC - Tieteen tietotekniikankeskuksen supertietokoneiden laskennalliset resurssit.

Odotamme Python ohjelmistokielen hallintaa. Aiempi osaaminen ja kokemus ohjelmistokehityksestä tai laskennallisen fysiikan ohjelmistoista kuten Quantum Espressosta, luetaan eduksi.

Hakijan tulee kyetä työskentelemään kansainvälisessä, yhteistyöhön perustuvassa tutkimusryhmässä ja auttaa kandidaattiopiskelijoiden ohjaamisessa ja opetustehtävissä.
