Data Warehouse Specialist, Aalto University, Espoo

Aalto University IT Services supports our researchers, teachers, students and other staff by producing world class services that make their work easier, more flexible, comprehensive and secure regardless of time and location. We are currently expanding our capabilities in data warehousing and integration.

As a data warehouse specialist, you are responsible for designing and implementing a flexible platform for operational data stores, data warehouses, data marts and data lakes for strategic data management. Designing, building, and configuring data warehouse and analytical applications and data access tools to meet business requirements is also part of your work. You will also implement the data strategy according to the organization’s business requirements in the application and consumption of information from the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) or from other suitable source systems.

You are also enthusiastic in seeking new and creative ways to utilize the data (warehouse) in the University’s development, decision making and digitalization. Part of your tasks is also to identify new external data sources, which would benefit Aalto University.

Majority of the maintenance and development of the data warehouse is outsourced so that you can focus on the big picture. In addition, you cooperate with different stakeholders, such as decision makers, system owners/administrators, reporting team and technical specialists.

Our Superheroes team consists of 9 skilled, talented and experienced professionals. Team is responsible of Data warehousing, Integration Services, Collaboration tools and Identity Management solution areas. Our team has excellent capabilities to face various IT challenges. Your team leader will be Petri Mustajoki. Petri is an IT architect with solution developer background. His leadership style is respect, listen and facilitate.

What we are looking for:

We expect you to have existing experience related to databases, reporting and analysis. We expect that you follow the field actively and have a good understanding of the latest trends.

We expect you to be experienced in:

• DW/BI solution development
• Good SQL language skills
• ETL development
• Database administration
• Working with multiple stakeholders

We also value your knowledge and experience in:

• Data / Information management
• Data modeling (e.g. ER)
• MS Reporting Services, SSIS or SSAS
• Working in ICT system development projects
• Multi-sourcing environment
• Documenting data warehouse design 
• MS Reporting Services, SSIS or SSAS
• Reporting systems (e.g. QlikView, Power BI)

As your personal qualities:

You are used to working independently and taking responsibility of your tasks. You have good social and cooperation skills and you are able to communicate and collaborate with both technical and business-minded co-workers and partners. You have excellent analytical skills and conceptual thinking and working in systematic, persistent and responsible manner.
