Business Area Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is a global leading supplier in equipment and tools, parts, service and technical solutions for the mining and construction industries. Applications include rock drilling, rock cutting, loading and hauling, tunnelling and quarrying. Parts & Services Division drives the aftermarket business, keeping customers’ fleet on track with needed services, solutions and parts and the Division is represented in more than 30 countries with more than 6,500 employees around the world. We are now looking for a Data Engineer. This position full-time, permanent and based in Tampere, Finland.

Your Mission

As Data Engineer, you are responsible for developing analytics data platform pipelines including system integrations, data processing, stream analytics and edge computing solutions. You will work closely with Data Scientists and Software developers to build work class digital service solutions. Main responsibility of the role is related to data engineering, but interests towards data science and software development is seen as a distinct advantage.

You fit into a dynamic, international and fast-moving team within a well-established business. You value the opportunity to work with both in-house R&D as well as with customers all around the world. You possess the ability to comprehend complex technical concepts quickly and focus on priorities. Experience in mining/construction or heavy machinery industry is regarded as a merit. The ability to speak and write in English as well as willingness to travel is prerequisites in this job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the creation and development of the Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology Data Platform together with a team of internal and external experts.
  • Rapidly developing next-generation scalable, flexible, and high-performance distributed data pipelines with real time stream processing.
  • Deploy machine learning algorithms developed by Data Scientists.
  • Continuously expanding service capabilities with API development to various systems.
  • Ensure data integrity and quality with quality assurance procedures.
  • Upscale the processing level of the platform at a growth rate to optimize calculation efficiency and cost.
  • Participating to various desktop and mobile software application projects.

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience Sought

  • You have the needed skills to work in analytics, which we see are some of the following
  • You have a university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or another relevant field (or equivalent experience). You have diligence to design, manage and maintain a robust production grade data platform in collaboration with the team. You have a solid track record of deploying data gathering, processing, analytics and data distribution solutions.
  • History in working with data transformation and processing tools to create efficient data pipelines, data warehouses / -marts
  • Experience in information modelling
  • Capability of creating a solution to consume & distribute the data through f.ex. APIs
  • Experience in working with cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure and AWS
  • Experience in data processing both in relational databases as well as working with unstructured data with big data technologies.
  • Preferably experience from mobile and desktop application development.

Preferred technology skills

  • Python, Java, SQL, NoSQL, Java Script (NodeJS)
  • Terraform, SnowFlake, Databricks, SQL server, MS Synapse, Azure Cosmos DB and other various Azure Components.
