The Neuroscience Center (NC, https://www.helsinki.fi/en/helsinki-institute-of-life-science/units/neur...) is an international research unit within Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) of the University of Helsinki, a leading Nordic university with a strong commitment to life science research. NC aims at making fundamental discoveries about brain functions and especially translate research findings into improvements in the treatment, prevention and diagnosis of psychiatric and neurological disorders. The research in NC spans across several scales from stem cell research and molecular neuroscience to systems and cognitive neuroscience in both animal and human models. The research groups of NC conduct research in neuroscience at the highest international level and actively apply the results for the benefit of the society. NC collaborates actively with other units of HiLIFE and faculties of the University of Helsinki, Helsinki University Central Hospital, and Neurocenter Finland.

The Neuroscience Center invites applications from outstanding candidates for

two GROUP LEADER positions

for a five year appointment starting earliest from January 1, 2020, with a possibility for a tenure track upon successful evaluation. The position is open for two candidates with excellent track records in the field of systems neuroscience, molecular neuroscience or stem cell-based brain research. We are particularly looking for candidates with research focus that helps to bridge research between rodent and human neuroscience.

We offer an international, inspiring, and supportive research environment, along with excellent research facilities and in-house state-of-the art technologies. NC hosts state-of-art infrastructures and facilities for rodent brain research. These include neuronal stem cell core, multiphoton microscopes, optogenetics, in vivo imaging and electrophysiology, as well behavioral facilities. The members of NC have also an access to human brain imaging.

The qualification requirements include an applicable doctoral degree, postdoctoral training from a relevant field in neuroscience, and an excellent scientific track record with high-impact publications in the top journals of the field.

We expect successful candidates to carry out independent research line, engage in multidisciplinary research collaborations with other NC research groups and with the Helsinki neuroscience community, and participate in the supervision of students. Candidates should be able to take the advantages of the infrastructures and networks available at NC.

Evaluation of applications is carried out by an Appointment Committee and includes interviews and statements of shortlisted applicants by Neuroscience Center’s Scientific Advisory Board. The interviews take place on December 2-3, 2019. The recruitment is expected to be completed by the end of January 2020.
